Speaker 1:

We're in talk mode. It's book review day again, as you very well know. Today we're looking at The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. We're in at 343 pages and published in 2021,. Let's have a look at the blurb.

Speaker 1:

This was meant to be the perfect trip the northern lights, a luxury press launch on a booty cruise ship, a chance for travel journalists, low black clock, to recover from a traumatic break. Except things don't go as planned. Walking in the night by screams, low rushes to her window to see her body thrown overboard from the next door cabin. The records show that no one ever checked into the cabin and no passengers are missing from the boat. Exhausted and emotional, low has to face the fact that she may have made a mistake. Either that or she is now trapped on a boat with a murderer Man.

Speaker 1:

This is not my normal, usual type of book that I pick up, but it was there in the works. They're doing this great offer Three books for six quid two quid a book. This is how I picked up the last few books I've been reading, and this one was on the show and I don't know. I just thought I'd give it a go. So it's a mystery book essentially. Like you know the classic mystery novels that you get what's happening, why is it happening? who's done it? you know that kind of thing. It's actually pretty good. It's like you see those classic the murder mystery games, right. It's like, oh, you're all locked in this house and one of you is the murderer. That's basically the premise of this book. They're all on a boat, all these people on a boat. One of them has to be the killer, right? So quite interesting.

Speaker 1:

I like the way the story was told, because it was advanced from different perspectives. So, for example, we were following our protagonist through the story, but at the same time, in between chapters, you'd get like an email that would advance the story from someone else's perspective, sometimes even at a different timeline to what the protagonist is going through. And then we'd get a forum, like people are talking already, or whatever, and then a news article. So the author used these different ways to progress the story, but not necessarily from our protagonist's perspective. It was from other people's perspective and not even necessarily in the timeline we were with our protagonist in. So yeah, man, it was quite interesting. Man, i really loved that slight different way of storytelling. That was pretty cool.

Speaker 1:

The book itself. Man, listen, it's a straight up murder mystery tale and, yeah, man, I enjoyed it. It was good. It's not my normal thing. I'm more going for like political and detective and that sort of thing. So it was nice viewing this story from the perspective of someone from a different profession. Our protagonist is a journalist. I don't think that's a spoiler. So, yeah, it was nice seeing it. It was still investigative and all that. But this isn't someone who's the police and got a gun or whatever you know. So, yeah, pretty cool book for me. Rating wise, it gets a solid three. It's a good book. Nothing particularly like I don't know nothing like ecstatic, but yeah, great book. I enjoyed it and if you're into this genre, you'll enjoy it too, i'm pretty sure. Yeah, this one's a short one, not much to explore here. Thank you so much for listening. Take care. Goodbye.
